The wonders of cork

October 13, 2012

Homework time.

Sturdy pieces of cork cut and glued together can be quite versatile; inside or out, table or stool. Available in two heights, these are the 15″h. x 11″ x11″..

Pruned branches from the cork oaks in Portugal become what are known in Portugal as tropecos do campo (country stools). As the wood is oak, the stools can be kept outside in the garden or brought inside. They have individual animal like characters. We have a nice collection, please inquire if interested.

We howled at the moon.

October 13, 2012

Thank you to all who joined us for a perfect evening, Saturday September 29. The moon was full; we ate, we drank and we sang. It was one of those special times.

The menu (prepared by Nicole Holbert, owner of Adrift Cafe in Anacortes, and her crew):Hors d’ouevres: grilled oysters, clams and mussels in garlic/herb broth, goat cheeses, crudites. Dinner: pork belly and shoulder braised in cider, marinated cauliflower, carrot salad, grilled fennerl/onions, potatoes, greens. Dessert: ginger bread with blackberry whipped cream and plum tatin.

With the weather as it was we were able to enjoy the pre-dinner outside in the garden and dessert out by the fire pit. We already look forward to the 6th annual in 2013. Please call or email us with your contact information so we will be sure to inform you of the date.
